SUNDAY

A distant bell beckons

The brethren to gather

To leave their warm homes

And go in to the cold

To a small ancient church

With a young lady vicar

Who prays to her god

That many don't know

She tells of her God

And his Kingdom of heaven

To trust in his love

And his son Jesus Christ

To pray for redemption

And life everlasting

And for mercy on the souls

Of those we have loved

She speaks of hope

And of love and of mercy

Both for the living and for the dead;

Her tone it is earnest

Her message is honest

And her sermon profound,

Brings hope and sweet comfort

To her flock down below

The benediction over

The music is ended

The brethren leave

And head homeward bound

To warm heated houses

And big happy families

Warm and content

With the God they have found.

She closes her bible

And takes off her stole

Then prays all alone

At the cross up above.

She prays for forgiveness

And life everlasting

And then she heads home

With God that she loves.
